Alone

The silence lengthened,
His throat tightened.
The shadows grew around him,
His black heart knew no love.

The sun shone bright;
Upon the waves.
He felt sad,
His life was ending,
No matter what he tried to do,
He was dying alone.

No one treasured him,
The waves crashed aloud on the seashore.
Streaming down his face;
Came the tears.

The afternoon drew longer,
The sun disappeared and mist replaced it.
The ship rose higher above him,
With every second, his lungs began to crave more and more for air.

He became chilled to the bone,
He wanted to leave,
But he couldn't.
Throwing his head back,
He gasped for breath.
If only his legs weren't tied,
He could jump of the ship.

The ship was sinking slowly,
The pain growing.
He glanced up to see the final glimpse of the sparkling stars.
The water covered his white face.
The moon glistened,
And all,
Was calm.
