The Heart

The heart is a tender thing

One hurt can leave a huge scar.

Someone too open to love and care

Risks so much.

The heart we give away, we can't get it all back.

A piece is always missing.

And soon we shut the heart,

And put up landmines and strict rules that no one can reach.

To protect the heart we put up walls and sharp edges,

So no one can steal a piece again.

So we can't easily give it away

And soon cobwebs come.

We forget how to love.

We become angry and bitter.

We lose hope in the human race,

And finally we just shut down.

Suddenly accepting the fact that we are alone,

But we are not alone.

God loves us, he never gives up on us.

He has a huge plan for our lives.

God can heal our broken, misshapened hearts.

He makes them complete and bright,

So that we can try again

To communicate and see what's out there.

Now if only I would believe all this.

My heart would thaw and be willing to try again.

Whether I try with my family, with men or women.

I should try to love people again.

But easier said than done.

One day maybe I'll accomplish that.

For now just acknowledging that I need help is a start.

It's the beginning of a new life and a new heart.
